How to Know Yourself

In order to reach our full potential, it is imperative to know ourselves. People who are “self-aware”, will tend to have more consistency and their actions will be congruent to their core beliefs and values. As a result, these individuals will be more authentic. They will therefore clearly have an easier time gaining others’ trust and building stronger relationships, but their self-awareness will also make them more apt to setting short and long-term goals. They will know when and how to challenge themselves in order to further their personal and professional development.

Learning to “know ourselves” is no easy task, and, because we are constantly changing, it is a lifetime process. There are however steps that we can take in order to keep-up with our ever-changing selves.

Observe your Internal Speech

How do you “talk” to yourself? What is on your mind while you commute to and back from work? What do you perceive is in front of you while you look through a mirror? Observing our internal speech is the first step to getting to know yourself and understand who you are.

Observe how you See the World Around you

In order to get a broader picture of who we are, we also need to establish how we see the world that surrounds us. Do you feel pessimistic or hopeful about the current state of things? Do you find yourself where you want to be? Do your daily activities reflect your passions? Are your wishes and your actions going in the same direction? By challenging what you really want to have, what you doing for it, and what you are to achieve it, you will know if your actions are actually consistent with your goals. If that is not the case, just change! As Bernard Werber would to say: “for now, the human world belongs to those who ask why. But inevitably the future belongs to those who wonder how”

Observe how you Communicate with Others

The ways in which we express ourselves say a lot about who we are. Do you naturally tend to use positive or negative speech? The kind of vocabulary we use to express ourselves, and the way in which we express it, contains hundreds of hidden messages that, when decoded, can imply a whole new meaning to our original message, but also to our character. Learning to notice our communication patterns can prove to be a wonderful insight into discovering who we are.

How to Get out of Your Comfort Zone

Everyone is always talking about “getting out of your comfort zone” and that it’s important to do it, but the truth is that not everyone knows why stepping out of your comfort zone is so important, and, sadly, many misinterpret what it really means.

A large percentage of people might associate the expression “get out of your comfort zone” to practicing extreme sports or climbing Mount Rushmore. However, the living on the edge connotation to the expression is not always right. Getting out of your comfort zone means stepping out of the ordinary—what is ordinary to you.  It means to face the fears that keep us moving from forward: the fear of rejection, of refusal, of being ridiculed, of failure, and even of success. This can be as simple as to daring to ask for a salary increase or go live elsewhere. In sum, it is to dare to live the life you want to live.The level of grandeur of the action ultimately depends on your own behavior. Someone who goes parachuting once a month is not stepping out of the ordinary by going parachuting; their ordinary is to go parachuting once a month.

So what’s so wrong with our comfort zone that we need to get out of it? Absolutely nothing. It is as important for us to have a comfort zone (a set of behaviors and actions that create a pattern of minimal stress) as we need to step out of it from time to time. Why? Because by slightly changing our behaviors and / or our actions, we allow ourselves to experience different things. We allow ourselves to take calculated risks, and, ultimately, to learn how to handle and accept change, which occurs whether we like it or not. Getting out of our comfort zone also produces a certain level of “healthy” stress, which, contrarily to too much stress, increases productivity and creativity, and urges individuals to push their boundaries.

It is so easy to get caught up in our daily tasks that we sometimes forget to take the time to step back and examine the way in which we do things. We can however rid ourselves of the straight and narrow of our ways by creating new and healthy habits.

How to Realize your Dreams

Realizing your dreams means putting effort and work into the dreams you carry with you. It means developing a plan to achieve them. It means taking action. But, most of all, it involves the judicious use of your master power: the power to choose. That is what Impact-Pro in Action is all about!

How Can You Be IP?

  • Express your opinion assertively
  • Try and try again! Not everything works first time
  • Register for training to expand your field of knowledge
